Every July, many riders search for a way to renew their bike token online. However, most of them find that their bike owes nothing. That is because motorcycle token tax in Pakistan is now mostly a one-time payment at registration. This guide explains the rules province by province and shows how to check and pay online.
Note: This is general information based on official Excise pages and laws. Rates and apps change, so always confirm the final amount with your provincial Excise office before you pay.
What Is Motorcycle Token Tax in Pakistan?
Token tax is the provincial motor vehicle tax on every registered vehicle. Each province sets its own rates under its own law. As a result, motorcycle token rules in Pakistan differ between Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Islamabad.
For cars, owners usually pay every year. For bikes, however, three provinces now charge a single lifetime amount. In other words, you often pay once when the bike is new, and that covers its life on the road.
Why does this matter? Police and Excise teams often check papers at pickets, especially in big cities. Therefore, keep your registration card and token receipt handy, because a clear record avoids arguments on the roadside. For a wider view of other charges, see our guide to vehicle taxes in Pakistan.
Lifetime vs Annual Token for Bikes
A lifetime token means you pay one fixed amount at registration. After that, no yearly renewal is due unless the law changes or the bike changes hands. On the other hand, an annual token falls due every financial year, from 1 July to 30 June.
Still, older bikes are a special case. For example, Sindh gives old bikes a choice between a small one-time amount and a tiny yearly fee. So, the “renewal” you need depends on your province and your bike’s age.
Overall, the lifetime system has clear benefits. First of all, you skip yearly queues at the Excise office. In addition, you cannot fall behind on payments, so late fines become rare. However, you must still keep the receipt, because a lost record can cause trouble at transfer time.
Motorcycle Token Tax in Pakistan: Province by Province
The table below sums up the current rules for private motorcycles. Since rates can change in any budget, treat these as a guide only.
| Province | Token type | Amount (approx.) | Where to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Punjab | One-time at registration | Rs 1,500 | ePay Punjab app, Excise office |
| Sindh (new bike up to 149cc) | One-time | Rs 1,800 | Sindh Excise Tax Portal |
| Sindh (new bike 150cc and above) | One-time | Rs 3,000 | Sindh Excise Tax Portal |
| Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | One-time (lifetime) | Rs 2,500 | KP Excise office or app |
| Islamabad (ICT) | Set by ICT Excise | Shown in app | Pak App, City Islamabad app |
KPMG’s July 2026 summary of provincial budgets showed no change to motorcycle token rates for 2026-27. Even so, check the official figure before paying, because motorcycle token rules in Pakistan can change in any mid-year notification.
Punjab: One-Time Token at Registration
The Punjab Excise website lists the motorcycle token as Rs 1,500, paid at the time of registration. This covers the token tax for bikes, so there is no yearly renewal. Therefore, token tax for bikes in Punjab is usually already clear on a new bike’s record.
Transfers are different, though. If someone transfers a motorcycle within ten years of registration, Excise charges Rs 1,500 again, with a 10% rebate for each financial year passed. For example, a bike sold after five years would attract a smaller amount than a new one.
The same Excise page also lists registration fees by engine size. Although these are separate from the token, you pay them at the same time.
| Punjab charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Registration, up to 70cc | Rs 1,000 |
| Registration, 71 to 100cc | Rs 1,500 |
| Registration, 101 to 125cc | Rs 2,000 |
| Registration, 126 to 150cc | Rs 2,500 |
| Registration, above 150cc | 2% of value |
| Lifetime motorcycle token | Rs 1,500 |
| Smart card | Rs 1,300 |
| Late registration (after 30 days) | Rs 500 extra |
So, register a new bike within 30 days to avoid the extra charge.
Sindh: One-Time Tax and a Small Yearly Option
Sindh changed its motorcycle tax in the Sindh Finance Act 2019. Since then, a new bike up to 149cc pays Rs 1,800 once, while a bike of 150cc and above pays Rs 3,000 once. In short, bike token tax in Sindh is also a one-time charge for new bikes.
Older bikes, on the other hand, have a choice. For instance, a bike registered less than five years ago can pay Rs 600 once, or Rs 80 per year. Similarly, bikes aged five to ten years pay Rs 300 once, and bikes aged ten to fifteen years pay Rs 100 once. Otherwise, they can keep paying Rs 80 every year.
In practice, the one-time option is the smarter choice for most older bikes, since it ends yearly payments for good. As a result, very few older Sindh bikes still need a yearly payment.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad Rules
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Act 2025 set the motorcycle and scooter tax at Rs 2,500 for life. Before that, the lifetime figure was lower. So, a KP rider with a new bike pays once and then simply keeps the receipt safe. However, if you registered your bike years ago, ask the office whether any old dues remain on the record.
Islamabad is the one place where the motorcycle token in Pakistan still needs a closer look. In fact, ICT works a little differently. ICT Excise sets its own schedule, while the 2026-27 budget mainly changed car rates. Because of this, check the exact motorcycle amount in the app or at the Excise office in Sector H-9 before you pay.
How to Check Motorcycle Token Status in Pakistan Online
Before paying anything, check what your record shows. In fact, this one step saves many riders a wasted trip to the Excise office.
- Punjab: Use the ePay Punjab app or the MTMIS service to see owner details and any dues.
- Sindh: Enter your registration number on the Sindh Excise Tax Portal.
- Islamabad: Search your number in the federal Pak App under the Excise section.
- KP: Try the KP Excise website or the Dastak app, or visit your district office.
Our MTMIS vehicle verification guide explains the record check in detail. Also, see our general guide to check token tax online for cars and bikes.
How to Pay Motorcycle Token Online in Pakistan Step by Step
If your record shows dues, you can usually pay online with a PSID (payment slip ID). The steps below cover Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad.
ePay Punjab token tax steps:
- Download the ePay Punjab app from the Play Store or App Store.
- Open the Token Tax section and enter your registration number.
- Then generate the PSID and note it down.
- Pay the PSID through your bank app, ATM or mobile wallet.
- Finally, check the app after a few minutes to confirm the payment.
Sindh steps: Open the Sindh Excise Tax Portal, enter your registration and mobile numbers, and generate a PSID. Then pay through 1Link, an ATM or online banking.
Islamabad steps: Sign in to the Pak App, choose the Federal tab and open Excise and Taxation. Then enter your number, get a PSID and pay through your bank’s 1Bill option. However, the app only works for smart card registrations. For more payment options, read our token tax online guide.
In all cases, the PSID has an expiry date. Therefore, pay soon after you generate it, and save a screenshot of the receipt. That way, bike token tax online payments leave a clear record if the system shows dues later.
Token Rules When You Buy a Used Bike
Token tax often comes up again when a bike changes hands. For example, in Punjab the new owner pays the reduced lifetime token if the transfer happens within ten years. As a result, always ask the Excise office for the full transfer cost before you pay the seller.
Also, check that the seller has cleared any old dues. Otherwise, you inherit the problem. In short, the motorcycle token record in Pakistan follows the bike, not the seller. So, never buy a bike on an open letter without a proper transfer. Our bike registration check guide shows how to confirm the owner’s name and record first.
Electric Bikes and Token Tax
Electric bikes get large concessions. In Punjab, the Excise page says electric vehicles get a 95% exemption on registration fee and motor vehicle tax. Meanwhile, Sindh charges electric motorcycles a one-time tax of just Rs 500 from 30 May 2026 to 29 May 2028.
So, if you plan to buy an electric bike, ask the dealer whether the price includes registration. Then confirm the concession at the Excise counter. Overall, electric riders pay the lowest motorcycle token in Pakistan right now, which adds to the savings on petrol.
Fines for Unpaid Motorcycle Token in Pakistan
Riding with unpaid tax or without registration can cost you much more than the tax itself. For instance, in May 2026 the KP Excise department in Peshawar started a crackdown on unregistered bikes and token defaulters. It also warned of fines and vehicle seizure.
In addition, unclear records block transfers and can delay a sale. Some relief schemes also depend on registration. For example, in April 2026 Sindh linked its Rs 2,000 monthly petrol relief for riders to bikes registered in the owner’s name.
