Ramadan is one of the most significant months to Muslims. It is a time of increased worship, spiritual cleansing, good deeds and acts of charity. In light of Allah Almighty’s love and mercy towards us, the reward for every good deed in Ramadan is multiplied by 70. The blessed Laylatul Qadr can be found in any of the last 10 nights of Ramadan, which are the most blessed nights of the year. As such, we should increase our worship and devotion during this period.
Who is to say that we will live to see the next Ramadan? We MUST make the best of these last 10 nights of Ramadan. If we cannot manage all of the ten nights, then as many as we can manage, particularly on the odd-numbered nights: 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th.
Points to Consider in the Ramadan Worship Plan
Worship all the 10 nights of Ramadan
Try to worship the whole of the last 10 nights of Ramadan or as many days you can manage. It is the best way to catch the unimaginable and incomprehensible rewards of Laylatul Qadr. Each and every good deed from Maghrib until Fajr on Laylatul Qadr is rewarded a minimum of at least 83 years’ of worship. Subhan Allah, that is longer than most of us will live!
Reciting the Holy Qur’an
Sincerely praying for forgiveness, reciting the Holy Qur’an, sending salawat (blessings upon the Prophet) and offering optional (nafl) prayers are examples of beneficial acts of worship on these nights.
Recite Dua for the last 10 nights of Ramadan
اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ ، تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Aisha reported: I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).” [At-Tirmidhi].
Remain in I’tikaf
I’tikaf is a great opportunity to reconnect with Allah in solitude. If it is not possible for one to remain in I’tikaf for the whole of the 10 days and nights, then one should try to remain in I’tikaf for as many days and nights possible. It is also possible to make intention of Nawafil I’tikaf each and every time one enters the masjid to gain rewards for the time spent in the masjid.
Giving charity during the last 10 nights of Ramadan
The last 10 days of Ramadan are an opportunity to gain multiple rewards by giving sadaqa to those in need for the sake of seeking the pleasure of Allah. The rewards of giving sadaqa during Laylatul Qadr is equivalent to having performed the same act for over 83 years!
Eat Light and Hydrate Well
As you will be staying up until Fajr, the more you eat, the harder it will be for you to stay up and the less productive you will be. Keep some water with you at all times. This will help you stay up, feel energised and refreshed and have a clearer mind.
Show exemplary character
The Prophet Muhammad ( P.B.U.H.) said: “Nothing will be heavier on the Day of Resurrection in the Scale of the believer than good manners. Allah hates one who utters foul or coarse language.” [At- Tirmidhi].
Muslims must aim to be the best in character during these blessed nights and continue to do so for the rest of the year. You must not argue, swear, backbite, slander or gossip.
Do not waste time
The last 10 nights of Ramadan are considered sacred, and it’s important that we commit ourselves to refraining from engaging in trivial activities such as idle chatter, watching television, playing computer games, or scrolling through social media. It’s essential to remember that there are 355 other days in the year to indulge in these activities if necessary. If we waste these precious 10 nights, we will undoubtedly feel deep regret and loss.
Complete all tasks beforehand
It’s important to prepare ourselves by completing as many unfinished tasks as possible before the start of the 10 blessed nights of Ramadan, or alternatively, creating a plan to tackle them later. This will allow us to focus on worship without being sidetracked by worldly obligations.
As Muslims, we must strive to make meaningful improvements to ourselves, and what better time to do so than during these sacred last10 nights of Ramadan. We have the opportunity to transform our lives forever. We should fully embrace these changes and make a sincere commitment to Allah Almighty. By doing so, we may be blessed with the forgiveness of our sins, and in turn, feel a sense of rebirth and renewal, In sha Allah.
