Tom Latham will lead the New Zealand side for the Pak vs NZ ODI series 2023, starting April 27, 2023. The team also announced the appointment of Saqlain Mushtaq as an assistant coach.
Due to their commitments with various franchises in the IPL, many key players from New Zealand’s regular squad won’t be available to play. This includes their captain Kane Williamson (who is also recovering from a knee injury), as well as Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner and Finn Allen.
Tom Latham will rely on the skills of seasoned professionals such as Daryl Mitchell, Matt Henry, James Neesham, Henry Nicholls and Ish Sodhi.
New Zealand have also included two potential debutants in Ben Lister and Cole McConchie.
Cole McConchie’s 1,140 runs across formats are the second most of any player this season while he’s also picked up eight wickets.
Ben Lister featured in the ODI Squad to face Sri Lanka during the recently completed ANZ ODI Series but didn’t take the field and has the chance to add to his international T20 debut against India earlier this year.
The 15-man squad for the upcoming Pak vs NZ ODI series 2023 includes several players who recently made their ODI debut, such as Chad Bowes, Rachin Ravindra and Henry Shipley. However, the team also includes six experienced players who were part of the squad that reached the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Furthermore, nine players in the squad have already played in Pakistan, either in the Test or ODI squads earlier this year. The teams will also have the advantage of having Saqlain Mushtaq, an experienced coach, who will be accompanying them on the tour and providing valuable insights into Pakistani conditions.
